After the Concussion
Whoever said, “It’s all fun and games, until someone gets hurt” wasn’t talking about sports. Somewhere between 1.6 and 3.8 million children, most of whom are high school athletes, suffer from sports related injuries every year.
Though, what is more concerning than the injury itself are the post-concussive headaches, along with neck pain, and the time it may take the athlete to return to the sport.
Sports-Related Concussions (SRC) and High School Athletes
Unfortunately, there have been far too many avoidable deaths of high school athletes in recent years, thus SRC have become a more prominent topic of discussion. The truth is that those deaths could have been avoided had the parents of those student athletes only sought out the care of an upper cervical chiropractor.
Of course, when an athlete of any age is in competition, they want to show off their skills, but showing off their skills should never be done at the expense of losing their life. Parents and coaches need to use caution when it comes to student athletes and do what’s best for them. That means parents and coaches should know the facts of possible injuries a child athlete might suffer from and the signs of SRC hey should watch for.

Post-Concussion Care and Your Child
Sometimes, being a parent means being the ‘bad guy’ or ‘gal,’ but good parenting isn’t a popularity contest. That doesn’t mean you should take away their fun, but it does mean you should make sure they’re safe as they’re having fun. That means doing the best job you can to keep them away from situations that could result in injuries that could lead to chronic physical pain, emotional problems, psychological issues, or other more severe consequences.
For that reason, if your child suffered from a sports-related concussion, it is important that you have their neck examined by an upper cervical chiropractor for any misalignments. A misalignment in the upper cervical spine of only ¼ of a millimeter could lead to a change in the flow of blood, cerebrospinal fluid, and nerves from the brain to the body.
Though, when an upper cervical chiropractor examines your child’s neck, they are able to tell if there are any misalignments in the upper neck that could result in a deterioration in your child’s health. They can then make any needed adjustments to your child’s upper cervical spine, thus restoring the flow of those fluids to and from the body and brain.
