How The Brain Communicates
Last week, we talked about how whiplash can be one of several types of injuries that can cause a misalignment to the upper neck vertebrae. That misalignment can place pressure on the brainstem, which is the main avenue through which the brain communicates with the body. That pressure hinders the flow of cerebrospinal fluid and cerebral blood, as well it hinders the brain’s ability to communicate with the body in various other ways.
Two Migraine Sufferers
This week, we’ll look at a case study of two patients who suffered from severe migraines and other complications due to whiplash. Both patients were examined in an upright MRI, in which their CSF flow was examined. This examination revealed that the top vertebrae in the neck, or the Atlas, was misaligned and was placing pressure on the brainstem. That pressure hindered the flow of CSF to the body, which resulted in migraine headaches and other symptoms.
After this revelation, both patients received adjustments to their upper cervical spine that same hour. They were then rescanned and the flow of the CSF was normalized. Both patients then found almost immediate relief from their migraine pain.

Previous Migraine Research
According to previous research, an obstruction demonstrates a correlation between the CSF Flow and intracranial pressure headaches. That obstruction can lead to various conditions including headaches, neck pain, numbness, tingling throughout the body, and various other physical complications.
Though, whether that misalignment manifests itself as migraines or any other condition, a person will only find relief from their pain by dealing with the underlying issue. That is by seeking the care of an upper cervical chiropractor, so they can examine the upper neck vertebrae.
After they find any misalignments, they will make the necessary adjustments to the upper cervical spine. This will alleviate the pressure that is hindering the flow of CSF fluid and cerebral blood, as well as it will restore the brain’s ability to communicate with the body.
