Surgical Risks of Migraines in Apex North Carolina

September 18, 2015 by dr.jstrunk@yahoo.com

Risks of Migraine Surgery migrainegalbymarinfdpn

More Americans suffer from migraine headaches than diabetes and asthma combined. This debilitating neurological disease is characterized by a throbbing or pulsating headache pain which can range from severe to moderate in intensity, along with other neurological symptoms. Anyone who has had a migraine will tell you how excruciating the pain can be, making it hard just to get through the day which is why they are constantly looking for relief, trying everything from medications, to learning stress and relaxation techniques to natural treatments and invasive surgery.

Migraine surgery is considered an alternative when all else fails when it comes to migraine treatments. Even the American Headache Society has suggested that no physician recommend the most commonly researched surgical treatment of migraine headaches because there’s no way to accurately estimate the problems that can occur due to the surgery, both during and after, short or long term. The surgery they’re talking about involves the cauterization of blood vessels located in the scalp and the removal of muscles in the areas referred to as trigger sites. Despite the lack of evidence of a safe, successful outcome of an extremely invasive surgery that involves the removal of muscles, there are still surgeons out there actively perform the highly invasive operations in the United States.

While surgery for migraines might eventually prove to be a viable option, it’s still not a cure. It is crucial that these surgeries only involve carefully selected patients, the ones have tried everything else and that are likely to benefit from them. Surgery, like prescription and over the counter medications, is only a treatment for migraines. I guess what we’re trying to say is be wary of anyone who tells you a particular surgery or prescription drug is going to “guarantee” success. Yes, many treatments can help, but always look at the risk of side effects as well.

Non-invasive Migraine Treatment

Very often, the root cause of the migraines is unknown and most treatments don’t do much to help control the problem. Upper cervical chiropractic offers a potential solution by endeavoring to correct the actual source of the migraine rather than just attempting to control the pain.

Upper cervical chiropractic entails aligning the top two vertebrae located at the brain stem. An upper neck injury can result in difficulties with the brain being able to correspond with the rest of the body. Migraines are only one of many conditions that can result from an injury in this area. It could be an injury related to a car accident, playing sports; there are numerous ways for an injury to happen and it has the potential of causing pain and alignment issues. An important thing to keep in mind is that symptoms may not even show up from sometime following the injury which makes it difficult to pinpoint the injury that caused the problem. Upper cervical chiropractic, in these cases, can offer safe, gentle, natural, drug free relief from migraines and various other symptoms.

Client Testimonials

"My 10 month old son was suffering from eczema and having trouble breathing for weeks. After a visit with Dr. Strunk I was so relieved to see my son comfortable again. He now is free of eczema and was breathing better almost immediately. My husband even noticed our son was better before I told him we had seen Dr. Strunk! Thank you for helping my baby boy feel good again!"
Veronica S. – Raleigh, NC

"I came to see Dr. Strunk after a family friend recommended him. For more than 5 years, I had severe headaches, back pain and breathing problems and I couldn't find a solution. The headaches were severe enough that they would keep me in bed and unable to function all day. My back and breathing problems were also interfering with my everyday life and limiting my exercise and work routines. I tried several prescription and over the counter medications. They either did not work or just temporarily solved the problem. After several months of care from Dr. Strunk, I feel great! I am no longer on any medications and I rarely have headaches and when I do they do not inhibit my everyday life. I have almost no back pain, shortness of breath or breathing problems. It's amazing that my body is back to normal and I am so thankful to Dr. Strunk for helping me!"
