Concern about Children and Post-Concussion Syndrome in Apex, NC
There is a growing realization among doctors and coaches that the impact of concussions can be more traumatic than originally thought. Research also shows the recovery time for young athletes becomes longer after every episode.
After every concussion, there is the possibility of symptoms that are due to changes in the flow of cerebrospinal fluid and cerebral blood to and from the brain. The concussion itself is not what causes those changes, rather they are the result of head and neck traumas that usually occur at the time of the concussion.
When it comes to young athletes, the younger they are the more susceptible they are to sustaining damage caused by misalignments in the upper neck vertebrae. Those misalignments lead to various health problems.
One Boy’s Story of Post-Concussion Syndrome
Here is the story of one boy who suffered from a concussion and dealt with symptoms after.
From the age of four months through five years of life Jake was in physical therapy due to weak muscles, low muscle tone, poor balance, and delayed motor skills. Before his first birthday, Jake received ear tubes, and his adenoids and tonsils were removed before he reached the age of three. His early life was also riddled with plenty of trips to the emergency room.
Because of his asthma, he was unable to participate in many sports, but his determination allowed him to overcome his limits. He began playing sports at the age of five and then he suffered a concussion at the age of 12. The sports injuries continued with whiplash from football when he was 12, and two concussions when he was 15 (one from football and the other from basketball).

For the next four years, Jake suffered from various health problems, including nausea, migraines, dizziness, back stiffness, and fainting. After only one month of upper cervical care, Jake’s parents reported that their 16 year old son and their entire family was filled with hope that their son would go on to live a healthy life.
Before his parents brought their son to an upper cervical chiropractor, they only sought treatment for his migraines from the medical community. This offered little relief for their son’s pain and almost no hope of a pain free future.
When they made the choice to seek upper cervical care, they made the choice to help their son heal. This is a specific and gentle form of chiropractic that focuses on aligning the top two vertebrae in the spine. A misalignment of only ¼ of a millimeter of the upper cervical spine can place pressure on the brainstem that hinders the brain’s ability to communicate with the body. The good news is that realigning the two upper neck vertebrae reverses the effects of that alignment and allows the body to begin to heal itself.
